Al Kent - Disco Love Mix 1

 Al Kent Mixtape
Al Kent was born in Scotland. His father was an avid record collector and had a cabinet full of them. And Whisky. Everything from Abba and Elvis to the Glitter Band and Buddy Holly was in there. What a load of shit they were.
In 1976 Al ran away from home to live in New York. Here, at the age of 8 he started attending the Loft and hanging out with Nicky Siano and a whole bunch of cool New York DJs with Italian names. In 1978 he was arrested for possession of PCP while guesting at Better Days with Tee Scott and deported back to Glasgow, where his dad was now getting into a bit more David Essex. He was shit too.
So Al opened.his own club in Glasgow, based on his experiences in New York. With his pocket money he flew Richard Long over to kit it out and had Walter Gibbons DJ at the opening party.
since then he's bought lots of records, done the deejaying in lots of places, and recorded an orchestra too.
For the full story of The Million Dollar Orchestra see the biography, in short the album was recorded in the traditional way, mostly one take, in an analogue studio. The Sound is rich , lush, string laden, beautiful disco music, full of joy with phenomenal musicianship. It is Al Kent’s biography told in Music. Al is currently working with Lynn from Ebonycuts on a time machine. This project should be completed soon, at which point the two will travel back in time and buy lots of records...

Excuse Me mix!!!!

Excuse Me is the cheeky name of one of the more talented and brave clubnights in Italy, and now it is giving name to the DJ team as well. Miles after miles, bpm’s after bpm’s, since that debut night in early 2006 all run with authentic enthusiasm, eclecticism and savoir faire, the same ingredients made Excuse Me one of the most tattled (and requested) DJ team in Europe, already considered in Italy a sort of a reference when it’s time to scout for remixes, white labels and disco/rock clashes. Excuse Me got indeed a an appealing and very own vibe, built up on a territory where electro bangs with indie-rock. In the most recent sets, the DJ’s got more unpredictable, still loving the pounding beats they tend to match them with re-edited classic anthems which results in an exciting show, you shouldn’t be surprised then to hear an 80’s underground dance hit or an English punk anthem... or more likely, some obsure re-edit of such.

Amylulita Playlist!!!!!!!!!!

(Poenix/Mexico) No video.
Before I knew about Hello Seahorse! I was listening to Babaluca's songs "Que Bonito" and "Pan Dulce" and falling in love. The music is so soothing and enjoyable - I'd say it's lullaby music for indie pop kids. The lead singer Carla Morrison is now working on a solo project and already has me hooked to her new stuff.

A few years ago I got really into exploring music from Montreal that was sung only in French. Numéro # was one of the first bands I found when searching Myspace and after seeing the music video I was hooked. Apparently in Montreal Numéro #'s fans are btween the ages of 15-18yr old young girls.

Ebony Bones looks like a mix between an over exaggerated comic book character from Archie and a faux cannibal. This song has a tint of Kudu and Santogold, but a bit more on the dark side like a voodoo witch casting a spell on someone. Love it.

PALI (Chile) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0PJIuol7Tk
Pali performed at Nacotheque this past year and honestly I had no idea what he'd sound like live. His performance blew me away and with only a single microphone, a CD, and himself dressed in a leather jacket, wifebeater tank, and a pair of tight fitting, pink jeans. A great voice and a great dancer. Pali is like a sexy, young Morrissey to me.

Doesn't matter if this song is sung in it's original French version or the English version (Jet boy Jet girl by Elton Motello) it's hands down a great song. Crunchy, rock n' roll guitar and old school saxaphone gets people in a happy mood!
